2019 British Championship!
2019 Briggs Equipment British Championship!
This year our British championship takes place up in the hills at Hednesford Raceway, and we’d like to thank Briggs Equipment for their sponsorship on the meeting!
So far we have 30 drivers booked in to race, they’ll battle it out through the heats to bag their place on the British Final grid! With a closed grid final, highest point scorer from the heats taking pole, and 30 cars to fill the grid it’s one not to be missed as our drivers will battle it out for the black and white chequered roof!
So who will we see taking the top step on the podium?
Not only is it our Briggs Equipment British Championship this Sunday but its also our Hednesford Raceway world qualifying round. Currently holding pole on the world final grid for 13th October is #131 Kevin Stuchbury, and having had the British Championship title before can he leave Sundays meeting still pole sitter for the biggest race on our calendar and a fresh roof colour?
‘Think I have a good chance in the British, always had good form around Hednesford so if we manage to qualify in a good position then I’ll be going for it, It’s always good to win a championship, I think with the British it’s a bit more special because people see it as the second biggest championship to win after the world’ #131 Kevin Stuchbury
Another ex British who’s recently come back to v8’s, booked in to race and ,in the new tarmac car, showed great form at our last Birmingham meeting #187 Craig smith! He’s had the black and white chequered roof twice before, can he make it three this year?
‘I’ve won the British twice in the past.. once at skeg and once at Buxton. The one at skeg has to be the more special one for me as it was my first. Going into this years British, I’m confident enough to challenge. Coming off the back of a good meeting at Birmingham I’m feeling it. I’ve been on the podium 3 times in the British and each time kev stuchbury has been on there too. I’d like to see us both on there again. Obviously I wanna win it myself but if I dont, kev well deserves another. We are the only ones racing with more than 1 win in the championship these days!’ #187 Craig Smith
Or can our, very close, runner up from last years British Championship at Buxton Raceway do one better this year? #154 Sophie Maynard racing just tarmac so far in her 2019 season and showing great form already taking heat and final wins this year! And having shown great form round the long oval of Hednesford Raceway she is definitely one to keep a eye on!
‘I’ve had a fairly successful season so far with a final win at my first meeting and another heat win last week at Birmingham. I’m back up to red grade for this weekend so we’ll see what we can do from back there. 2nd last year was good but I’ll be doing my upmost best to go up a spot on the podium this year’ #154 Sophie Maynard
With it being our first meeting out of the second grading period it could be anybodies race! Some of our lower graders showing great speed on tarmac this year, can they use the size of Hednesford to their advantage and pull away in the heats giving them a great starting position in the British Final, or will chaos happen up front and drivers from the back sneak through? With it being our only meeting here for 2019 the drivers have only the heats to find the perfect British winning set up!
Who’s your top 3? Can a ex champion regain the black and white chequered roof or will we get to see a brand new British Champion?
Thank you again to Briggs Equipment for the meeting sponsorship, and we’ll see you all this Sunday, 16th June, at Hednesford Raceway, kicking off at 1pm for the Brisca V8 Hotstox 2019 Briggs Equipment British Championship!
Also don’t forget to keep a eye out on our new Youtube Channel! Get to know your favorite drivers a little bit behind the scenes! Catch up with #525 Amy Jagger, she’s now starting to climb the grades in the formula, has shown great form on tarmac, and is also booked in to race this weekend!
