This should be a report on the V8 Hotstox debut meeting at Lincolnshire's Blyton Raceway. The former World War II airfield enthusiastically welcomed the Hotstox BoC when they visited the track to ensure it could host the formula. The track itself features very tight corners with a somewhat worn concrete racing surface - pretty perfect for some action packed racing. A deal was reached on the proviso that the armoco fence was strengthened and back filled where needed which the promoter of the Blyton track agreed to.
18 cars made the trip despite some seriously dodgy weather. On inspection of the track it was discovered that turns 3 and 4 were waterlogged with the promotion doing their best to pump the water off. The Hotstox were given an extended practice session so the drivers could acquaint themselves with the tricky bends which needed to be taken at a near walking pace - they were that tight !
Concerns were starting to grow in the pits - not so much because of the water, the fence it seems had not been worked on as promised putting the BoC in a compromising position. After much deliberation, it was decided that the meeting be abandoned and the lads were ordered to load up. It was the right decision, heaven only knows what might have happened if a car had hit the fence with nothing behind it to prevent a car breaking through possibly to cause injury to driver or spectator. Of course a lot of the teams had travelled a long way for nothing, but the blame firmly lies with Blyton.
It's a shame that this has happened as the track - although rough round the edges - could provide some really great racing. Lets hope the situation can be resolved and the Hotstox can make a successful debut.
