Wright and Henstock Injured

During Sunday's Feature race - held in appalling weather - 357 Leighann Wright and 65 Andy Henstuck sustained injuries which necessitated the removal of the roll cages on both cars. Around the halfway mark Leighann had impacted the safety barrier backwards and was obviously in trouble. The medical team attended and supported Leighann as she drifted in and out of consciousness. The decision was made to remove the cage to enable safe removal of Leighann and the Fire Brigade were called. Leighann was taken to Boston Hospital.

The race resumed and was no more than 5 laps older when Andy Henstock spun into the fence at a fair rate of knots. The car struck the fence at a funny angle as the inside rear of the car took the brunt of the crash - heavy enough to punch a hole in the chassis. Andy was also drifting in and out of consciousness but more worryingly had limited movement of his hands. The Lincs Air Ambulance attended and the cage was removed from the 65 machine and Andy was carefully removed from his car and taken to Lincoln Hospital.

Leighann was thankfully given a clear bill of health bar some bruising and a sore back and neck. She was released from Boston Hospital and returned home to Barnoldswick, Lancs.

Andy has not been so fortunate. He was detained at Lincoln Hospital and underwent CT scans. It then transpired he had suffered broken bones in his neck and back and was rushed to Nottingham Hospital where he underwent surgery to insert metal plates. Andy's condition has now stabilised and the Doctors have given an encouraging prognosis. Andy's recovery will be a long one with a 3 month stay in Hospital, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

We send both drivers our best wishes and to Andy especially, we are thinking of you mate.

A collection is being organised for Andy and the details will be posted as soon as we have them. We shall also publish details of where to send any cards etc. I'm sure that Andy would like to see visitors as soon as he's able to.
