Allen wins 2008 British Re-run
7.4.09
Buckinghamshire's Mark Allen scored a career first major title win at Coventry Stadium Saturday 4th April, when he overcame 2nd placeman Marc Radforth at the midway point and never looked back. Front row pre race favourites 3 Chris Fort and 575 Darren Cottrill were early casualties as both were relegated down the field in the early laps as Marc Radforth took up the running. Further back, 159 Carl Radforth was going extremely well whilst 281 Lee Summers spun and T-boned 117 Rob Scriven. Allen had caught and was challenging leader Marc Radforth. The pair swapped the lead at least once a lap for the next 6 laps or so with neither managing to break away from the ot\tyher once past. Allen eventually muscled by and got the gap as Radforth slipped wide into the loose and lost time. Allen then never put a wheel wrong all the way to the flag to take the win. Marc Radforth came home 2nd with cousin Carl (Radforth) finished a very strong third from the back.
The meeting had kicked off with a celebrity race featuring Kelvin Fletcher (Andy Sugden from Emmerdale) and Boxer Michael Gomez racing some V8's. The meeting proper followed the British with Cousin Carl taking Heat 1 from Chris Fort and 473 Chris Bracher. Fort turned the tables by taking Heat 2 from Radforth with Darren Cottrill home third. Radforth looked a good bet for the Final as he made a very good start but no sooner as he had a sniff of the leaders then he pulled up to reture lacking some wheel nuts! Chris Fort then had little in the way of competition as he stormed through the field to take the flag. Allen was 2nd with 187 Craig Smith putting in a good drive for 3rd. Worthy of a mention is 75 Terry Hawkins who came home 4th - an excellent drive for the 17 year old in his second season of Hotstox racing.
A good opening meeting to kick off 2009. Next meeting is Buxton on the 19th April.
