2008 Season Approaches

.: WHEELS, TYRES & TRANSPONDERS :.

Toyo F8

You might notice a few of the Hotstox sporting new wheels this season. Traditionally, the Hotstox have only been allowed to run on standard wheel rims but, spoked wheels have now been introduced. The wheels will also have new rubber in 2008 with the introduction of new a control tyre. Colway tyres who supplied the Hotstox for many years, succumbed to financial pressure late in 2007. This meant replacements were needed and after much research and tyre testing, Toyo Tyres together with Kingpin Tyres will be introduced to the formula alongside any remaining Colways the drivers may still have.

Technology has also arrived in the shape of transponders and computerised lap scoring and timing. The F1's have been running transponders for a couple of years now with the F2's and Ministox joining them. Now all Hotstox cars will be fitted with a transponder so keep an eye on Mylaps.com for results and lap times from the V8's.

V8 Hotstox 24th season kicks off at Sheffield on the 30th of March, a little earlier than recent years. Defending champion 131 Kevin Stuchbury is ready to go after testing at NiR last Wednesday along with near neighbour 161 Mark Allen. Kev couldn't wish for a better season than the one he had in 2007 after scooping the majority of the silverware and titles on offer. Allen on the other hand will try to put the last year well and truly behind him after a season filled with engine problems. Kevin did say he struggled to catch Mark at NiR but maybe thats just a bit of gamesmanship !

It's been a long time since so many new cars have appeared. After Lee Summers debuted his new one two meetings from the end of 2007, he will be joined on track by 184 Carl Boswell, 314 Steve Bowman, 373 Rob Hartley and 370 Chris Melbourne all of which have built new cars over the winter. Older cars have also changed hands with ex f1 driver Adam Squance buying the 72 Kev Thornton car. New driver 116 Senfield Norton should debut the ex Scriven Witts built car at Sheffield and the Swinton Car Project have bought the 373 Rob Hartley car and have had another old chassis completely refurbished by NFR's Neil Fitton - and very nice it looks too. V8 returnee's 81 Matt and 187 Craig Smith are on the Sheffield booking list. Matt is at the wheel of the ex Carl Radforth car and Craig will be racing uncle Tony's ex Stuart Milnes car - purchased over the winter.

237 Daz Parker takes over the driving duties in father Nigel's retro special. Nigel is taking a break as his back is causing him some grief. 355 Bryan Andrew is ready to make his assault on the titles. I suspect Bryan will build on the good year he had in 2007 so, don't be surprised if he takes a title or two. Not due out at Sheffield but booked in for Buxton will be young Danny Wainman. Danny will be doing as many V8 meetings as he can whilst also doing as many F1 meetings as he can.  We can't wait !
