Preview: 25 and Under Young Gun Championship Trophy

The second staging of the 25 and Under, Young Guns Championship is just around the corner and the grid could not be any more wide open. The inaugural 2015 staging saw 15 cars take to the track in damp conditions, but it was a fantastic race; the red grade knocking seven bells out of one another, allowing Guy Jolly (222) to race off to a dominating win; with the grid for the 2016 staging set to top that, Northampton Sunday 4th September @ 12:00, is the place to be.
Jolly has been part of the formula for around 8 years and actually could be classed as a veteran, here defending Champion Jolly recalls the last 12 months and his plan for his last attempt at the title:
“Being Under 25s champion has been a great experience. I will always feel proud and privileged to be the first winner of the race and I will be trying my hardest to make it a double in my final attempt.”
“I think the Under 25s is already classed as a big title amongst drivers and fans. When I won last year, the well wishes I received were a great feeling from respected F1 drivers, fellow V8 drivers and fans.”
“I think the field of young drivers is first class and pound for pound, V8s has the best crop of young talent of any formula. Everyone wants to be top dog, drivers like Phoebe, the Spencer Brothers, Jon Brown, Jedd Stirk and Sophie Maynard are the future of our Sport, they are all so young, it makes me feel old! I think the future of V8s and BriSCA F1 is bright with drivers like this coming through.”
“I think realistically, we have struggled on Tarmac all year and going from Superstar has made it double difficult, but we are working hard to get back on pace, after this year we will focus more on shale but the team is working hard to be on pace to have a shot at defending it; going on track with the trophy in front of such a big crowd will be a proud moment and I don’t want to hand it back easy.”
“If we don’t win, I think the race is wide open: Phoebe is on form at the moment and will be a favourite, the Spencers and Jon brown will feature and I wouldn’t discount Sophie Maynard or Tristan Jackson from being there, but as long as it’s a good race for the crowd that’s all that matters and I hope the race grows and grows year on year into a must see championship.”
Neil Stuchbury Motors has generously, again, sponsored the race with some good money and trophies on for the top three.
Also the V8 Hotstox will be offering: £10 per lap bonus for the leader of each lap (£10 X16), plus £20 to the highest white & £20 to the highest yellow (Outside of the top three).
Kindly sponsored by Jonny Goss at StoxPics – £20 to the highest finishing Female racer
Any further contributions would be greatly appreciated
It’s going to be another great race, look at the list of drivers, which is a big percentage of our current driver base; the formula is certainly in a healthy position.
