Andrew takes snowy final

Clear roads and a clear track despite overnight snow showers which may have put paid to a few racers. However, it was a case of another bout of disappointing last minute cancellations that reduced the field to just 13 cars despite 18 being booked in.

Never the less, heat 1 gridded the full compliment which included the shiny new 314 Steve Bowman car which looked superb. 113 Neil Stuchbury was back, at the wheel of brother Kevin's shale car. Todays meeting also marked the debut of 212 Danny Wainman in father Frankie's V8. At the drop of the green it was indeed Wainman that took up the running after punting 178 Richard Burt wide. The yellows battled and Colin Taylor in the 147 car emerged and chased after the leader. Further back 131 Kevin Stuchbury had been trailing 161 Mark Allen until the pair came up behind 113 Neil Stuchbury. Allen hesitated and Kevin made the pass. 178 Burt retired after clouting the fence exiting turn 2 as 212 continued to lead. Stuchbury in car 131 eventually reeled in Wainman and went on to record a comfortable win with Allen not far behind and Taylor and 473 Chris Bracher having passed Wainman who came home 5th.

Heat 2 gridded 12 as Bowman failed to make the grid with an engine that wouldn't run. Again Young Wainman made the running with 160 Nick Blach giving chase. Burt clattered the pits bend plating but carried on regardless. Colin Taylor scored some air time as he rode up the front end of 370 Chris Melbourne exiting turn 2 but managed to gather it all together. It wasn't to last too long as he and 281 Lee Summers tangled when 373 Rob Hartley punted Summers onto Taylor and the pair spent a lap separating themselves. 161 Allen managed to make the break from the Superstars and was carving his way through the field. Indeed, Allen took it up after passing Wainman and went on to win with Danny 2nd, Stuchbury (131) 3rd, 355 Bryan Andrew 4th and 160 Nick Black 5th.

The Final had all 13 cars on track as Bowman cured his engine problems. The race began with a light snow shower which got heavier making the conditions very slippery which caught Danny Wainman out as he lost it exiting turn 2 and lost time on the infield. 178 Burt took it up but had Summers, Melbourne and a flying Andrew for company and they eventually moved past with Andrew taking it up with Allen not far behind. Kevin Stuchbury also found a way past Summers and Melbourne and was chasing after Allen and Andrew hard. Further back Bracher punted Summers into Stuchbury (Neil) which ended Summers race and spun Stuchbury. The race was brought under caution with Andrew now losing a big advantage. Upon the restart Andrew just pulled clear with Allen suffering in the worseningly slippery conditions and couldn't hold Stuchbury off as he nicked 2nd. The laps ran out and Andrew took a very convincing win as Stuchbury could not make ground on the 355 car. Allen hung on to third and Bracher took 4th. 5th home was Steve Bowman - an excellent debut for his new car. Neil Stuchbury hooked 212 round on the wind down lap after earlier being spun by the 212 pilot.

All in all, a decent days racing from a low turnout. Imagine what it would be like with a full compliment of cars !
