Skegness 7th and 9th August 2014

The traditional mid week Skegness meeting on Thursday 7th August attracted a credible 16 cars to the funcoast in search of World Championship Qualifying points and the Jon Maw Memorial trophy. The huge holiday crowd were treated to a great nights of racing.

Richard Burt (178) made a welcome return to racing after being missing from the tracks for 10 months. Hayley Williams (26) turned her season around and raced with a great turn of speed; dominating the opening heats to two wins. Kevin Stuchbury (131) took the meeting feature final and Jon Maw Memorial, Stuchbury renowned for his blistering form on tarmac had his work cut out when Simon Sykes (64) made it hard work and fought Stuchbury for the win. Sykes had to settle for second who in turn had to hold off Terry Hawkins (275) beating him into third.

Two days later and the V8’s were back in action at Skegness and with a few additions, 21 cars returned on Saturday 9th August for the second round of the challenge series. After a great evening the Thursday night Hayley Williams (26) engine gremlins returned and wasn’t able to carry on where she left off Thursday, Kevin Stuchbury (131) though carried on exactly where he left off and took the two opening heats in fine style. Come the final though Stuchbury came under fire from the front bumper of a number of candidates including rare Skegness visitor Darren Cottrill (575) and Adam Joyce (157) who solved his problems from Thursday night, Joyce putting the front bumper to great use which put paid to his Final victory campaign. This allowed experienced race Glyn Daft (96) to take his first final win for a number of years; a perfect drive which saw him hold a half a straight lead over second place Stuchbury who managed to break free from the aggression of the red grade. Michael Boswell (328) took a great third place. Karl Hawkins (175) rounded off the evening with a victory in the Grand National.
