Some of you may have seen that the Kingpin tyres ,that we currently use, are not going to be produced anymore, the BoC have estimated that we have sufficient stock to last until July 2020. The BoC had already been in contact with a possible new supplier for the 2021 season (as was agreed at the AGM).
Obviously now it’s a matter of urgency that these new tyres are tested so we can get a new supplier on board sooner rather than later. The BoC have got one set of shale tyres and one set of tarmac tyres, the aim is to test these tyres with a driver from each grade.
Due to time constraints and the fact we have 3 shale meetings in the first month of racing it was agreed by the Board that #8 Catherine will be the first to test the shale tyres at both Mildenhall and Kings Lynn. We will then look for them to be given to other graded drivers for the next 4 shale fixtures. There will be no special allocation of points for those that are testing these tyres, they will just score normal points for the results they achieve. There will be a feedback form to be completed at the end of each meeting by the driver testing the tyres so we can gauge how well the tyres perform. We will of course keep all drivers and teams informed of how the testing is progressing.
The price of these tyres has not been fully negotiated as yet but they will not be as expensive as the Kingpin drivers are currently using.
Please also note that once the testing has been completed the date for implementing these new tyres will be governed by the existing stock of Kingpins as they will have to be used up first.
