2019 Tengtools European Championship
2019 Tengtools European Championship
This weekend our drivers and their teams make their way back to Mildenhall Stadium for the seocnd time this year, but this time they’ll be battling it out to take home the red and yellow chequered roof, the European Championship!
Will we see V8 Hotstox newbie #29 Joe Higgins defend the title? After such a great Hotstox debut last year at the European Championship held at Birmingham Wheels Raceway, Higgins fit right in in the Hawkins Hire Car, where he used the heats to find his feet which didnt take him too long as he qualified on pole position for the big race, Holding to the front end of the grid, race leader #328 Micheal Boswell began to struggle with a misfire in the closing laps and Higgins was reeling him in with #288 Jon Brown not far behind him. Higgins held it to the last corner taking Boswell wide and taking home the European champion 2018 title in his first ever meeting in a hotstox. Will Higgins be able to keep his cool on the loose stuff as he did on tarmac?
‘I feel my chances are alot slimmer than last year. Mainly because I’m further back and feel I am more competitive on tarmac, also mildenhall is quite a smaller track compared to Birmingham so it is easier for the higher graders to catch the lower graders. On a personal level it’s been great, something I thought I would never achieve before. However it’s a shame i haven’t done many meetings whilst holding the title like another driver may have done but i suppose it is what it is. I won’t be giving it up too easy but I’m out there to enjoy myself and may the best man or woman win’ #29 Joe Higgins
Or will we see a fresh champion for 2019?
We have some of our shale best booked in to race this weekend! Will our Hotstox veteran and shale expert #575 Darren Cottrill show the young guns how its done? With a shale win under his belt only last weekend, and showing great pace at our Mildenhall weekend at the start of this year only loosing the final win on the last corner, it looks like he’s got his new car exacly where he wants it. Or #491 Paul Prest, he took 3 shale final wins on the trot earlier this year, including both days at Mildenhall! We also have #77 Rudi Coleano making his 2019 debut, hes also got a few shale wins under his belt or maybe last weekends Final winner #131 Kevin Stutchbury can make it 2 Finals in a row and bag the Title!
#69 Matt Barnard has had a great run around the shale of Stoke Speedway so far this year taking the last 2 final wins there, one giving him the Northern and Midlands Trophy and also taking home the Incarace Gold cup 2019, having won the Supreme trophy around Mildenhall in the past can he add the European to his 2019 collection?
‘I think l stand a good chance at winning the European this year. We’ve had some strong pace on shale this year, having won both finals at Stoke. Going up to Superstar was definitely a challenge, but I’ve had still had strong results including 3rd in the British and 3rd in the final at Sheffield last week so our pace is definitely still there. We know we have a car capable of winning it so it’s all down to me now’ #69 Matt Barnard
#552 Declan Gwin recently made it up to red grade this year and held it! Also proving he can battle with the best from the back of the grid, yet to take a win from red grade, will it come this weekend?
‘I feel I have a good chance at the European this Saturday as it is on my preferred surface of shale. Racing from red I have my work cut out but Mildenhall is a proper track ,flat out and sideways which suits me down to the ground . Looking for a top 5 finish’ #552 Declan Gwin
Or can #222 Guy Jolly win his first major championship in his 11th year in the Hotstox? He’s won a few minor championships on throughout his time in the Hotstox, and with a great number of race wins and even winning finals round Mildenhall in the past, will luck be on his side this weekend?
‘The European is one of the big titles in the Season every driver wants to win it but i also feel we have a good chance if we survive the opening laps i expect it to be a chaotic race but hopefully we will finish well’ #222 Guy Jolly
The European final may be a closed grid, but we do run it in graded order! So through the heats our drivers battle it out to score highest and start at the front of their grade, but our top lads and lasses still have to battle down through the grades to get to the front of the grid. We have some fast lower graders in this formula, so will we see another lower grader win?
Can Higgins master a V8 on shale as he did on tarmac?
Only one place to be to find out!
